Death Note

  1. This film is a remake of a Shonen comic by Takeshi Obata and Tsugumi Ohba, which means that it is targeted at male audiences.(Note: Shonen is a Japanese word literally means typical teenage boys). It is mainly aimed at male audiences because they are able to relate the comic with the film. However on the other hand female audiences that enjoy the theme of supernatural and a mixture of mystery could also be watching the film.

At the beggining of the film, when the camera focused on Light (Note: The boy) using a long shot, this creates an mysterious atmosphere, which makes Light vunerable around the environment. And when we first meet Ryuk (Note: The God of Death)the camera panned form Light towards Ryuk. This creates a tension from slowly revealing the mysterious person of the voice coming towards from th e direction. Also from using a low angle shot makes Ryuk more dominant and light seem vunerable. And the fact that a over shoulder shot was used was effective because we could focus on the scared expression on Light's face, whicn creates tension and from Ryuk's back, it signifies that he is enigmatic, which keeps the audiences questionning and that it sinifies that Ryuk play's a important role in the scene. The scene was set during the night, which means the lighting is weak.

  2. Narratives: Based on the scene we are able see from Light's point of view, for example when the camera was panning upwards (Point of view shot) And we could also see from Ryuk's point of view (high angle shot). The constant switching from one character to another is known as the onminiscent narrative.

Representation:From the scene, I could denote that a teenage boy that is taking a walk at night, which could be a bad representation of teenages (sterio- type). However, judging from his costume Ie: a bag and the note book in his hand indicates that he maybe a honer student.

  3. Minyee, I find your micro element a bit confusing. You need to separate out your homework for me and Ms Khan so that it is clear and doesn't run into one another, even if you use the same clip. You have talked about elements of mise en scene and elements of cinematography - next time make sure you are clear on the hmk, just to write about one in detail. You have started to analyse for a deeper meaning, thinking about how the camera is creating a representation of the characters and creating meaning however you need much more analysis. Remember to use the anagrams, CLPPS and AMPS to make sure you cover all sections. Well done for using some creative vocab, when analysing try to use represent, connote (means), signifies and develop answers. 'The lighting is weak' - why is this true if set at night, what does the night represent?
